History
How it all started
Familyland was set up on 28 March 1968 by Mr and Mrs van den Plas.
It all began as a camping business, and what’s a camping business without a swimming pool and a restaurant. In 1970 Familyland built a riding school. In 1976 the riding school was converted into a tennis hall because of the growing popularity of this sport.
In 1989 Familyland began hiring wooden Finnish bungalows, because the appeal of the fixed caravan began to wane drastically.
In 2001 the tennis hall became an indoor golf hall called IntoGolf. It is open not only to guests in Familyland but also to people from the area, to practice golf, whatever the weather.
A tragedy
In the summer of 2002 Familyland suffered a terrible tragedy.
A fire started in the attic above the restaurant and the whole restaurant went up in flames. The bar, the bowling hall and the reception area suffered so much smoke and water damage that they all had to be completely renovated.
The here and now
Seven years later, and a whole new modern main building rose up from the ashes. The restaurant and the bowling
hall are still in the same place, and the Grand Café now stands where the reception used to be. The reception is now located elsewhere and is a lot bigger so that Familyland can give you an even better welcome.
What started with a tragedy...
has finished up as a renovated centre that you perhaps wouldn’t recognise as Familyland, but...you’ll soon notice that the quality and service at Familyland is as good as it ever was.
